Fort Lytton Comes Alive Again!

Holding the Fort! is a go-back-in-time program for school age children. It’s a dramatized experience set in 1944, when Fort Lytton was in full operation (although past the immediate threat of attack). The children are framed as new recruits on their first day. In the story the General is arriving at 12 noon for an inspection and it’s a marathon race to get ready in just two hours. Hats and flags have to be made; semaphore has to learned; and drill on the twin-six pounder has to be practised. The General is played by one of our Fort Lytton Historical Association guides, and of course he gives the fort a pass and praises the competence of the new recruits.

Times - 10.00 - 12.30   Dates  June 29, 30 July 1, 6, 7, 8.

Stannard Road Traffic Lights

During the Brisbane City Council 2020 Election Campaign, I door knocked most of the suburb of Manly West including the streets either side of Stannard Road. A lot of people asked me if it would be possible to get traffic signals for the intersection of Stannard & Wondall Roads and Stannard & Manly Roads or both.

I have received a response from Council’s Traffic Section that states whilst Council recognises that these intersections meet the traffic warrants for traffic signals to be considered, there are a large number of other intersections which also meet the warrants.

Currently, no funds have been allocated for traffic lights to be installed at either end of Stannard Road.

Council also advised that that they will add these intersections to the lists of sites to be assessed once things return to normal and they can have some realistic traffic counts done.   I will keep you informed of any progress in this regard.
